Planned usage in 2016-17
Many of the interventions referred to for Year 7 that took place in 2015-16 are continuing into 2016-17, although with the further introduction of an additional extended day through to 4.30 pm (now three days per week) and the added introduction of pre-start holiday homework for Year 7 students prior to actually starting with ATA alongside catch up sessions after the end of the Academy day, the range of support provision is further extended for the new academic year. The extended range, whilst applicable to all students, significantly benefits those who start with poor prior attainment levels and when coupled with the provision of more sets (leading to smaller group sizes) within Maths across Key Stage 3, much is in place to raise levels of achievement amongst those who join with poor prior attainment.
Many of the additions operate through the SEN department with Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) support, although both the Head of Year and the member of the Leadership Group with responsibility for Year 7 have significant input as well. Members of the Library and Learning Resources department also provide literacy support through the operation of the paired reading scheme and information skills programme, while members of the English department run literacy clinic sessions as an extra-curricular commitment. The early interventions introduced and funded through this provision continue to show positive outcomes in attainment levels within the younger year groups and narrowing the gap between the lowest achieving students and their peers.
